For the March 14th event a collaborative effort between the “Habitat Acquisition Trust”, the “Greater Victoria Green Team” and the “Friends of Havenwood Park” resulted in an enthusiastic volunteer group of “weed warriors” participating in a Havenwood restoration event.
For the first time in the park restoration work is aimed specifically at removing invasive non-native English holly and Daphne laurel plants.
The daphne and holly is being removed from the park before these invasive plants overtake the native species now growing under the forest canopy, in this area being primarily Salal (Gaultheria shallon) and Sword fern (Polystichum munitum).
It took some determined effort….
for some impressive piles of daphne and holly to be piled up, even though this work party had to end a bit early due to some strong winds creating a safety risk.
A great effort by all!
